Brandon "Bonecrusher" Sauls and Clay Morphes slammed the flounder for the 2nd day in row with 8 flounder, the biggest being 6 lbs not to mention the nurse shark Clay jigged up.

6lbs ought to be a Rodeo Leaderboard 1st place!

"Final Approach" | Do Work / OIFC | 07/13/14

Taken from the Final Approach Facebook Page.

The 2014 East East Coast Got Em On King Mackerel Tournament had highs and lows for Final Approach Fishing Team. The day started off with some peanut dolphin, then a reel screamed and soon after we boated our 21.15lb king. Fought some sharks and cudas before something smoked our long line. After clearing lines and the fish making a few good runs, we worked to the boat. Jason felt something strange a and Captain James thought a hook may have pulled. Once we saw the fish we knew... what happened. A barracuda cut off the back end of our king. After and hour and a half of the fish being in the box it weighed over 33 pounds. We had what would have been the 3rd place fish. Later in the day we caught a nice bull dolphin, but we didn't put our money in the dolphin pot. Overall we enjoyed the tournament and got some meat for the dinner table out of it. Our king finished 41st and paid our entry fee for next year. Our focus shifts to the SHARE King Mackerel Tournament next week

"Howling out of the Southwest" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/11/14

Blow blow blowww seminole wind...calling to you like long lost friend...The winds are eroding away at my fishing attitude. I like a challenge from time to time, but it has been one thing after another lately. Hurricane, July 4th boat traffic, and 20 knot winds out of the southwest has this Captain beating his head against the gunnel. We started off catching sharks and black sea bass this afternoon. Yeah! I said sharks and black sea bass in the backwater. We found a short flounder, but I was constantly fighting with the wind. We moved to a redfish hole and the wind blew me right off anchor way to close to the reds ruining our chances there. I had a verbal confrontation with the wind and moved to another flounder area. As luck...yes, LUCK would have it. We found ourselves in the middle of a really good flounder bite. We caught several short fish and 4 really nice keepers for the dinner table. Somehow we pulled it out in a sustained 20 knot wind. The men provided dinner, so hopefully the ladies will be happy. Thanks Chad, Will, and Keith for fishing with me and being patient with the conditions. See ya on the water!

"More Backwater Action..." | Tiberias - 22' | 07/10/14

The wind tunnel continues to make fishing difficult for anglers. We got started pretty quickly getting a keeper flounder to the boat first thing. We caught a few more short fish in our first area before moving to our next. We had several opportunities in our second spot, but could not hightlight on the bites. I think we lost a few good fish. We made our move to a redfish hole picking up a few little ones. Made another move and found some good ones. Despite the windy conditions making it tough to feel the bite we still got a few. See ya on the water!

"Backwater Action" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/08/14

Sliding into our first spot of the morning with the anchor rope barely getting tight we quickly got lines in the water. Andrew being the youngest onboard we got a rod in his hands first. Brandon got the second line in the water and Bruce had just got his line in the water. Andrew calls out fish on! That was awfully quick is what I was thinking to myself as I slowly eased toward the dip net. As the fish surfaced I started to panic. I was caught off guard by the size of flounder Andrew had just put the steel too. After getting ourselves under control and keeping the fish out of the motor we landed a 4.2 pound flounder to get our day started. We quickly boated three more flounder with one more keeper. We bounced around from there picking up a few more short flounder, a nice trout, and found a redfish to complete our slam. Not a bad day considering the wicked weather we've been experiencing lately. See ya on the water!

"King Mackerel Growth Chart" | Do Work / OIFC | 07/06/14

I've often wondered how old a king I've caught was.  Below is a growth chart.  It has the years down the left and the length on the bottom.  Good luck this weekend!

They live to be much older than do Dolphin, Wahoo, and (non-Bluefin) Tuna. Interesting.

"Mama said, "The East wind is the devil"" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/05/14

All fishermen have heard it. West wind is the best. South wind hook'em in the mouth. East wind they bite the least. We fought a stiff East wind this morning only getting a few opportunities at landing a nice redfish. Lane lost a nice red in the shells. I couldn't get the rod in Luke's had before my strike ended in the shells. Luke got another shot and did an awesome job working a nice 25 incher out of the shells. Great job Luke! Don't let your older brother Lane hear the last of it. Bask in the sunshine as long as you can! Love it! See ya on the water!

"Happy 4th of July Backwater Report" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/04/14

Hurricane Arthur came and went leaving us with a beautiful 4th of July. The water was a bit stirred this morning, but the fish were ready for a snack. We caught a few reds, some flounder, and a trout. We even found a small black drum that bit a live shrimp in just a few inches of water. The fishing was pretty good for post hurricane conditions. Next obstacle will be dirty water runoff coming from the river systems. A couple of good high tides and we should be back to normal. See ya on the water!

"Come and gone" | Do Work / OIFC | 07/03/14

Arthur hit South Brunswick County, not like a lion, but more like a mad cat.  He left like a dog was after him.  That being said don't let the news people make you stay home.  We are very fortunate let's hope our fellow coastal residents and visitors come out as well as we have.

The 1st picture is from Frying Pan Towers as shown on a Charlotte TV Station.

The 2nd is at the height of the storm at Ocean Isle Beach

The 3rd was taken @ 7pm the same day.
