"Quick Backwater report" | Tiberias - 22' | 08/18/14

Mullet minnows are thick in the waterway. Low tide they are extremely easy to find, but during high tide you have to look a little harder. Flounder, reds, and trout are around, but they don't seem to be hanging around in one place for long. Moving around until you find a few seems to be the ticket. Of course, fishing is fishing, you never know if you were 15 mintues early or 15 minutes late. The fall migration of mullet has started and the predator fish will not be far behind. See ya on the water!

"Fall Ahead" | OIFC | 08/18/14

Althought its August now, Fall is not too far off.  The kids go back to school next week and like Jimmy Buffet sings, "...... when the coast is clear."  Here are a couple of Fall fishing pictures just to stir the soul a little.

"Change of venue" | | 08/18/14

After a long Summer of fishing and work, Brant, Amy, Caroline and Brayden are changing venues. Mountains, cool weather and 4-legged animals--- no fins or scales or sand for a few days. The last hoorah before school is back in. Currently at The Biltmore outside of Asheville and soon to be followed by Dollywood. It's a Griswold family vacation! Capt. "Thank You" | Do Work / OIFC | 08/14/14

Thank y'all for bearing with us while we are wrestling with web page issues.  In the mean time some of the Captains are posting on our facebook page.  Keep your reports and pictures coming and we will publish them as soon as we can.

Also Capt. Jacob told me a picture of an African Pampano mysteriously changed to a mahi.  Trust me I know the difference.  But I may not know what a king looks like because of the way the "Do Work"s season has gone.

Thanks again from the entire OIFC Crew!

"Black Drum?" | Tiberias - 22' | 08/09/14

Thought that I had finally found some real black drum. We have been catching 13 inch black drum from Little River to the Shallotte River, but not any big enough to keep. The new regulations on black drum in North Carolina only allows anglers to keep black drum between 14 to 25 inches with a creel limit of 10 fish per person per day. It is amazing how many we have caught just under the 14 inch mark. Regarless a 13 inch black drum will bend the rod and I have scaled down the gear to a five foot ultra light. As luck would have it scaling down the gear just about cost us a few good bites. Deanna drilled a 21 inch redfish on the ultra light and then landed three more black drum with the largest one at 21 inches. It was about all that 5 foot ultra light could handle. It was a pure joy to watch the fight unfold and to finally bring home some nice black drum! However, the bigger drum are not biting as consistent as the 13 inchers. Either way the little black drum are a blast on light tackle. See ya on the water!

"Best Trip of the Week" | Tiberias - 22' | 08/08/14

Greyson and Timmy put the hammer down on the fish despite the ugly water conditions. Black drum, croaker, trout, flounder, and redfish all cooperated on this trip. We used everything in our arsenal to make it happen. Live shrimp on small number 6 hooks to live mullet pinned to a light 1/8th ounce jighead. The ole Carolina rig also produced a few bites with live mullet and live shrimp. Letting baits sit still and letting the predator fish find it has been the key. Taking it slow and being patient is what it takes to catch a few fish in these conditions. Thanks for fishing with me guys! See ya on the water!
