"Family Fun Day" | Do Work / OIFC | 07/07/13

I got an early morming phone call saying, "lets go fishing, meet at the OIFC dock ASAP".  So we (Courtney, Camdyn and myself) loaded up and went to the dock.  We were met there by Capt. Brant, Capt. Amy, Caroline, Brayden and Capt. Rube.  We headed offshore and the first mission was to jig some bait.  We had some success with the bait fish, but the Sea Bass were just too thick.  After a while of jigging, Caroline, Camdyn and Brayden wanted to catch a King.  Capt. Rube deployed a rig and the rod never made it to the holder!  It was bit by a 17 pound king.  Camdyn grabbed the rod where she was assisted by Capt. Rube.  Capt. Rube coached Camdyn right through the fight until the fish was landed and in the boat.  Camdyn could not have made it through the fight without the assistance of Caroline.  You know you are good buddies when you hold your friends hair out of her face while she catches her King.  Next up was Caroline where we caught another King, and then Brayden was on the rod for some awesome sharks.  It was an awesome day on the water that was capped off by a nice swim.

How true that family time is the best time!!! I have always loved the saying Take Your Boy Hunting Instead of Hunting Your Boy!!!!

Capt. Rickey 07/07/2013

Most people cannot do this at home. My family couldn't where we used to live. Jeff & I started fishing at a small lake in Durham Co. when he was 5. Who would have ever guessed that we would be fortunate enough to have Camdyn who along with Jeff & Courtney are now my best fishing buddies. We owe Capt. Brant and the entire McMullan family a great deal for opening up this exciting new world to us. The short of it is take your child or a child fishing and open a whole new world for them. Even if it's a small lake in your county.

Camdyn, Caroline & Brayden could not have a better coach than Capt. Rube. After all, he taught Capt. Brant & Capt. Barrett. What a life the children have at the coast!!!

"Backwater Report" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/07/13

It has been a busy week on the water. The boat traffic has been horrendous as expected for the week of July 4th. Of course this is typically when we hide way back in the creeks, but with all the freshwater runoff we have been forced to fish the waterway areas to find action. The trick is to slow down and try your best to control your water rage. Despite all the obstacles that fishing presents from day to day we manage to prevail and find a few hard fighting fish. Here are just a few pictures from this week's action. See ya on the water!

"Big Whiskey" | Do Work / OIFC | 07/05/13

Big Whiskey=big king today.  Chris Campbell of Campbell Photography and the exclusive photographer and more for "No Limits Fishing" starring Capt. Brant & Capt. Barrett McMullam on ATMC-TV showed his king fishing skills today with this 53" king.  With a tournament next weekend I am not about to embarraass myself by asking Chris where he caught it.  It's good to know they are out there and the water where ever he was looks good.

"Break in the weather" | Real-Time Update | 07/04/13

The Ward family, captain Stan and myself ventured out this morning in search of clean fishy water. We started out about 17 miles southwest of Shalotte inlet. After hooking up on what seemed like a million dog sharks, we decided to push off to a spot just offshore of the Bill Perry reef. Shortly after we set our spread, IT WAS ON. We steadily were bringing up amberjacks and Cobia whenever we could get live baits in the water. After the dust settled, we ended up with 6 amberjacks, 3 Cobia (43#, 35#, 20#.) and few good quality sea bass. It was a treat to fish with the Ward's. They were eager to learn how to catch the big ones and that's just what they did. On another note, cleaner water is 30+ miles. Kings were caught last week around the Atlantic ledge and the 70 foot hole. Jigging up live cigar minnows has produced the more frequent king bites yet you can't beat a lively pogy. The fish are out there and hungry. Lets go fishing.

Some scenes of the Andrews crew today offshore. Fished 80 feet for jumbo sea bass reaching a limit in relatively short time. Lost count of how many were released. Also did battle with hungry AJ's.

"Backwater Fireworks" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/04/13

Capt. Jeff Williamson and myself have been busting some red and black firecrackers! We have been using Carolina rigs for the fuse tipped with explosive live menhaden that have been creating some LIVE ACTION. We both landed several reds in the upper slot and some over the slot today. Black drum have also joined the fun hitting live shrimp in various places along the waterway. Here are just a few pictures from this week's fishing trips so far. Please visit our facebook page for additional pictures. See ya on the water!

The Chadwick's and Kevin Scott 07/05/2013

It was a great day after all the previous days of rain and high winds. Captain Chris and Austin found the fish and we caught our share. Kevin "The bass anihilator" took the honors in catching the most black bass. All of us got a big catch, Amberjacks and a Cobia. It was a great trip thanks to God, Mother nature and OIFC.

Join us at the Carolina Wing Company Saturday night July 6th for UFC 162!!  There as always be great food, a super bar and a lot of OIFC staff and friends.  I had the fish taco last night and it was to die for.  It's not just a chicken wing place.  They have fresh local seafood..some of which I helped catch.  I may have eaten the mahi pictured below last nite.

I may get in the dog house with Capt. Jeff Williamson, but I am used to being there with somebody.  Jeff has been catching the heck out of fish even though the conditions are not the best.  I asked him why last night and he said he was using live shrimp.  Which brings me to remind everyone that we now sell live shrimp!

"Catfish in the ICW?" | Do Work / OIFC | 07/01/13

That's right.  Once you cross under the Little River bridge the ICW begins to become fresh water so it can support catfish.  I haven't got a bream or crappie report.

Below are pictures of what Team Snooky's/The Law do when the ocean is too nasty to go king fishing.  Pictured are Jeff Drake & Reed Todd age 7 of North Myrtle Beach and one of the catfish they caught.  Reed is a tough cookie to fish in the rain we had yesterday.  Behind the camera is Captain Michelle Drake of Team Snooky's and Captain of the Getaway Adventures Dolphin Tour Boat based out of Little River. Getaway Adventures is a proud sponsor of Team OIFC.

Thanks for the report Captain Drake.  It warms the OIFC's collective heart to see young people fishing.  If ya'll have any stories supported by pictures please send them to me at sunset69@atmc.net.

"Welcome to Seattle" | Tiberias - 22' | 07/01/13

I am starting to feel like Bill Murray in the movie Ground Hog Day! Ever morning for the last two weeks I have woken up to strong southwesterly winds 15kts+ and rain showers. The forecast has not shown much hope for a major change for the next few days. Despite these conditions the backwater guides here at the OIFC will continue to grind out a few fish for our clients. Live shrimp on Carolina rigs or under corks continue to provide the best action. Live menhaden have been hard to find in all this wind, but with a little patience they can be found. Large schools of small mullet are showing up. We have our fingers crossed for a quick stable change in our weather pattern. See ya on the water!
