"Beach bite to begin?" | OIFC | 09/19/13

This is nothing official, just observations.....the mullets have it figured out, the yellow butterflies have it figured out, the calendar has it figured out: I'm betting with this northeast wind laying out tomorrow and Saturday that the Kings figure it out and show strong at Lighthouse Rocks and maybe the River Channel. It's fall on the Carolina coast and he magic is about to begin. Come on down!!

"OIFC fishing friend passes" | OIFC | 09/19/13

This past weekend, inshore fishing guru Capt Steve Prevatte died of a heart attack at age 66. Capt Steve always had a happy smile on his face and a good fish story to tell when he would pull up to the OIFC dock. Capt Steve will be missed by his fishing friends at OIFC. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Steves' passing means the loss of a friend, neighbor and an always smiling face. I had not seen Steve in a while and was just commenting on not seeing him. His passing is a loss. Rest in peace my friend :(

We fished in this tournament and my two boys, Alex & Dylan Stone placed third and had a wonderful day of fishing. We ended up with 7 flounder and 3 red drum. I thought this was pretty good for their first fishing tournament. They were fishing with Brad Faulk on the "Tarheel"

"The Gulls and Bouy..." | Tiberias - 22' | 09/18/13

Mr. Stapf joined me with three lovely ladies from the big state of Ohio this morning. It was an extreme high tide this morning with the full moon. We found a few reds and some sheepshead first thing. We made a move to find those 30 inch reds that had been biting. The weather was perfect and everything looked exactly right to get the bite. We were unable to highlight our trip with a 30 incher today. We did manage to slide around the corner and find a couple of nice flounder for the dinner table. Thank you Phil, Pam, Angie, and Katie for fishing with me! See ya on the water.

"The Jetties" | Do Work / OIFC | 09/17/13

Just like fishing...it was great yesterday, sorry it's terrible today and red hot tomorrow.  That's what happened to us, we fished the one day the wind was ripping out of the east.

Then yesterday the bite turned on again.  Below is a picture of Hackney Parker of Belize with an oversized red drum he caught and released.

"That's Right Rickey" | Tiberias - 22' | 09/17/13

As Rickey's report says...the bite was hot yesterday, horrible today, but probably on fire tomorrow. Too bad the only day you could fish was today. There is no doubt most of us have experienced that kind of fishing. The Little River Jetties were red hot this past Saturday. Sunday was a different story as only a few were caught. Monday we killed them in the Shallotte inlet, but I could only muster up one fish there today. The action should get a little more predictable as this cold front pushes on through. The bait is as thick as ever and the fish will show up! See ya on the water.

"SALT LIFE" | Do Work / OIFC | 09/15/13

Team Do Work hit the back waters on our trusty 2000 Yamaha powered Polar, the "Tale Chaser".  We were in hopes of getting in on some of the Red Drum action at the Jetties, but the wind had other plans.

With a live well full of finger mullet we elected to stake claim under the Sunset Bridge.  All we caught was a nice blue crab and a clam. Looks like we may need to hone our in shore skills.

But Camdyn wanted to keep them both, announcing she was going to eat them for supper.  Capt. Jeff (daddy)  explained to her that if we killed the crab she would have to eat it.  We don't kill creatures just for the fun of it.  She enthusiastly said she was gonna eat it.  Look at the pictures below.  This young lady not only wears Salt Life.  She lives it and loves it!!

"Friday the 13th..." | Tiberias - 22' | 09/14/13

Brent Elliott and his son Matt joined me yesterday in hopes of finding a little redfish action. We started off the day as spectators as Capt. Jeff Williamson caught a couple of slot reds just up the creek from us. We made several adjustments moving around, but could not get anything going in the creek. We decided to move on out to the jetties looking for some serious action. We made our first drift and hooked up with a 32 inch redfish. I called Capt. Jeff to let him know a little action was happening out there. Capt Jeff reported that he was killing the reds in another creek. A tough call to make...join Capt. Jeff to catch several reds or stick it out at the jetties for a 40 incher? We elected to stay out at the jetties. We did not catch several reds, but we broke Matt's biggest redfish record three times. We were just a half inch shy on our 40 inch mark as our third fish of the day was 39 1/2 inches. Regardless, there is nothing more fun than tangling with one of these bruisers! Thanks for fishing with me guys! See ya on the water!
