"Far Out Shoot Out " | OIFC | 05/18/14

Congratulations to Captain Frank Johnson and crew of the Emma Rose who captured the overall win in the 2014 Far Out Shoot Out.  The team fished the first day of competition and clung to the lead to the very end despite some serious challengers.  Second Overall was taken by Zach Faulkner and crew of the Get Floor'd/OIFC and third overall was taken by Toby Russ and crew of the Mr. Goodhands/OIFC.  First place wahoo at 39.7 pounds was won Michael Lee of the Streamin Live.  First place Tuna was won by the Get Floor'd/OIFC with a 20 pounder.  First place Mahi and the events biggest fish was won by Patrick Bellamy and crew of the Mining My Bidness with a 42.95 pound Mahi.  Fishing was exceptionally good for all participants as Mahi were certainly the main course, but there were just enough Wahoo and Blackfin Tuna around to make the event a challenge.  28 boats participated in the tournament this year, which is pretty darn good.  I am hoping the Shoot Out can grow again to the 30-40 boat tournament that it once was.  We are not very far from it.  We also had 2 Billfish releases- Scale Bound had a Sail and Reel Relief had a White Marlin.  Both of these teams will have their names engraved on the memorial Don Leonard Billfish trophy which is on display at the OIFC.

"Boy Scouts Rock the Dock" | | 05/18/14

The OIFC entertained a Boy Scout troop from Liberty, NC yesterday for a dock fishing lesson and tournament. There were 11 boys between the ages of 12 and 16 who all fished off the dock. It was a bit of a struggle, but every participant caught at least one fish; pinfish, spot , croaker, perch and bluefish were all caught. It was all in good fun as the troop learned some tricks on catching more fish. It was nice to see the troop leaders/ chaperones go to the extra effort to give the kids an opportunity to spend a couple of days at the beach doing some fishing. It will hopefully be an experience they remember and will learn from. Best of luck and good job Capt. Brant McMullan Ocean Isle Fishing Center

These Blue Water Candy Tweeners are what Team OIFC/Do Work slayed the wahoo with the other day at the 100/400. The red & black worked best for us. The OIFC has just received a new shipment.

"Stewards of The Environment" | Do Work / OIFC | 05/17/14

From my experience I have determined anglers and sportsmen/ladies are some of the best stewards of our environment.  As an example, most readers of this report are familiar with Brandon Sauls.  Today Brandon joined a group in an ICW trash sweep.  He said "man what an eye opener it was.  We worked a 300 yd section of the Waterway and came up with 12+ bags of trash and debris.  Take care of our environment people"

Thank you Brandon and thanks to everyone who participated.  I wish I had known about it.

That would have been Capt. Mark Stacy and Brandon Sauls picking up trash for the River Sweep out of Little River SC. It's an eye opening experience but give credit to both these guys for giving there time to a worthy cause.

"This week In Review" | Do Work / OIFC | 05/16/14

The spanish pictured below were caught off OIB in 20 to 30 ft of water in about 30 minutes by the crew of the Cannon Ball with Capt. Howard Cheek this past Wednesday.  Thanks for the report Capt.

Bob Newell said that even though they were out of the FOSO because of motor trouble they still had a great day Sunday mahi fishing from the Black Jack to the 100/400.  They even had a white marlin in the spread.

Picture 3 is of the crew of the "Reel Relief" fishing their FOSO Tournament Day..

Doug Montgomery sent the picture of the white marlin his brother Capt "Boomer" Montgomery caught out of Little River.  Could this have been the same white marlin?

"Time flies" | Do Work / OIFC | 05/13/14

It seems like only yesterday Katelyn Kinser came to work at the OIFC.  Now she has graduated from college.  We have watched her grow from a high school cheerleader to an Honor Student at UNC Wilmington to now a college graduate.  In between she grew very close to Carolyn, Brayden McMullan and Camdyn Beck and has now become "KK".  She has captured the hearts of all the "OIFC Family"  This summer KK is managing the boat and jet ski rentals.  Stop by and congratulate KK!!!!
