"Night Lights" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/11/12

A good friend and I finally got out on the water together. Brett and I use to fish often throughout the year, but conflicting schedules have made that difficult lately. Even this trip was short and very late in the evening. No worries we have caught a many of fish in the dark. This evening was no exception as we got into the trout fast and furious. As the sun started to set we started setting hooks on some nice trout. We caught about 30 trout in the first hour and said that was good enough. We headed for the house as it has been getting chilly when the sun goes down. Darker colors work great earlier in the morning or late in the evening. Chicken on the Chain is my favorite in low light conditions. See ya on the water!

"Team OIFC Nationals report" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 11/11/12

Well, we gave it all we had, but we just did not get the opportunities to win.  We were in the right spot both days.  The way I can best rationalize it; last year we were in the right spot and everything went right.  We caught a ton of big fish.  Boats around us fished the same baits, but many got bites from much smaller fish.  Whatever it is, "mojo"??? or something else, some days you have it and others you do not.  We also were assigned boat number 13 and our boat slip number was 13.  Anyway, we did everything we know how and we had a good time; we weighed 38 pounders both days for a 77lb aggregate and finished around 25th place.  Congratulations to the Pennyless team from south Florida who weighed a 56 and a 46 to win with 103lbs aggregate.  Good news is that the second place team was local fishing team Fishmeister of Calabash who weighed a 55 and 41.  Carolina teams made their presence felt.  Thanks to all who rooted us on this year.  We competed with honor and are humble in defeat.
Also, on a personal note- Only a day after the terrible accident that I suffered in late July, I lay in my hospital bead and worried about not making it to fish the SKA Nationals.  I made the goal to attend and fish in the event; and I did it!  It was a satisfying accomplishment.  again, thanks to all for your support during my recovery.
Team OIFC is on the road in transit today.  We are looking forward to the holiday season.  We have serious plans to refurbish and upgrade the OIFC in celebration of our 10th year in business.
**Also, as you begin the tedious and often mind boggling task of giving holiday gifts, don't forget about the OIFC.  From a gift card to an OIFC T-shirt, sweatshirt, hoodie ......... everyone looks good in OIFC gear.

The following is from Corey Bellamy and the crew of the "Choice of Two" crew located at the SKA Nationals:

Crazy site to see this boat sink in about 5 minutes ... We picked up the crew and went fishing afterwards ... Crazy how fast something like that can happen

"Get your trout on!" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/09/12

Steve and Byran joined me on this cold November morning for some trout action. I had to re-think my thinking as my tide clock is a little off on the time change. I pulled up to a spot that looked about right for the tide level. I picked a weapon of choice and made a cast simply for instructional purposes to show my guys the presentation we would be using for today. About the time I got the words "just let it fall slowly towards the bottom keeping the line tight" out of my mouth. THUMP! There he is! I quickly handed the pole to Bryan and loaded Steve up with a weapon. Both anglers were hooked up! Bryan must have caught five in row and then 2 boats pulled up throwing anchors. That scattered the fish, so we made a move. We continued to pick at them for a little while, but had not found them like our first spot. I made a move and a few adjustments. Fish on! Fish on! I got one! We ended the day with 20 to 25 trout, 5 to 6 reds, and a flounder. The water has really gotten clear making it very easy to spot fish, yet spook them at the same time. Remember be quiet and keep your distance. We caught all of our fish again casting artificials. My favorite baits are of course 4" Sea Shads by Bass Assassin in various colors. Albino ghost and Green Moon will be the go to colors as the water has gotten gin clear. Good luck out there! See ya on the water!

I was asked a load ( a southern unit of measurement) of times today "Where can I catch the trout?"  Look close at the background in the pictures of Scott Allen's picyures and you will find the answer.

Jeffery Weeks unexpectantly passed away today. Jeffery has written numerous articles and his latest book has held the #1 spot on Amazon for several months. Jeffery's articles, reports, and personality will be missed greatly in the fishing world. Our prayers go out to his family and two children.

Team OIFC is worn out.  We spent the better part of the day hooked up to a variety of fishes.  As for Nationals, we tried hard, but only managed to boat a 38.  A 58 was the big fish today.  It is a 2 fish aggregate event, so we will give it another go.  The good news is the Carolina teams are doing well.  Stay tuned.

"OIB Manatee" | Get Busy | 11/08/12

Paul McIntyre sent us the following post:

I don't know if you'll be able to see them very well, but attached below are pictures I took of a manatee in the main canal behind Ocean Isle Beach. We were only a few feet away from it for several minutes, so we were definitely able to make a positive identification. After a very tough day fishing in the Fall Brawl on Sunday, we were just about back to the house when we saw the manatee easing along just below the surface. It would rise from time to time to breathe. We followed it until it finally turned out the main channel toward the ICW. Don't know if you've ever seen one here before or have heard of anyone seeing one, but we thought it was pretty unique.

Thanks for sharing Paul
