"Running Solo" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 05/13/12

David Rucker headed off the beach early yesteday morning in hot pursuit of a King bite. Radio chatter indicated pogies were holding just off Holden beach near the pier. Mr. Rucker was able to net a few and headed toward Yaupon. It wasn't too long before he was hooked up with a King mackerel. Going solo is tough work, handling the boat, angling the fish, and gaffing all by oneself is a challenge. Mr. Rucker made a great gaff shot and brought back a nice King for a picture here at the OIFC. Purdy work right there! Look out! Team Rucker could be a contender in this year's Jolly Mon tournament. See ya on the water!

"Pearly Whites" | Tiberias - 22' | 05/13/12

Dr. Jeff Wallen and Dr. John Pauy show off their pearly whites as they pose with their catch today. Getting information from these two guys was like pulling teeth. I continued to drill the two dentist and managed to get a little information. Dr. Wallen was using pogies caught in front of Ocean Isle Marina and mullet caught in a near by creek at low tide this morning. The duo also had a few live shrimp, but the weather kept them away from the jetties. Dr. Wallen managed to tighten up the Rodeo standings by weighing in a 5.5lb flounder. Dr. Wallen also had a nice 26" 6.2lb redfish. The redfish category is going to be tight. The flounder and trout division is still wide open. If you are not in it, you need to be! See ya on the water!

"Inshore bottem fishing" | Get Busy | 05/12/12

I made a trip up to Carolina Beach yesterday to take a dad and his two sons ages 5 & 7 for a day of bottem fishing. I stopped by the Bait Bardge on 421 and picked up a couple lbs of fresh shrimp. I met them at the ramp around 8 and away we went. We started down the river around the ferry crossing and had a few fish, moving further down river behind Bald Head Island we encountered a non stop bite in 35 feet of water whiting and double heading croakers . It did'nt take long to burn thru the shrimp and head back. Those boys will sleep good tonight. Tons of action and pretty good table fare.

"Lets talk eye protection" | Get Busy | 05/12/12

One thing we have not talked about is how important good glasses are on a boat. I only wear Maui Jim. I wear prescription glasses so they are a little pricey but worth every penny. Polarized are the best you can't see the gas pump or some GPS screens but being able to see thru the glare on the water is important. Now I want everyone to look and see if Christinas glasses are polarized. Nice flounder Christina caught in Tubbs Inlet today along with 6 others. Having a fishing partner that is EZ on the eyes helps to.Oh yeah I was fishing on Danial Simmons Triton bay boat.

"7th Heaven" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 05/12/12

Captain Larry Spainhour was joined by Jason Gore, Kent Gunter and Ken Craven aboard Larry's 7th Heaven.  The guys weighed in a 23.8 lb Mahi and a 37.1 wahoo.  Their most exciting moment of the trip was doing battle with a blue marlin.  The marlin put on a show but managed to free itself.  They were so fired up that they didn't get any pictures.

"Call The EPA" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 05/12/12

I expect Rube was considering calling the EPA and complaining about an Oil Slick. After all it was "The Oil Slick" Cape Horn that knocked Rube and crew out of 1st with a 41.15 lb wahoo.  For good measure the guys weighed in a 20.45 lb mahi.

The "Oil Slick" crew was made up of The Legend..Captain Jamie Milliken, Kyle White, Captain Joe Seegers and Robbie White.
