"90's Action" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/12/12

Capt. Chris Dew and and a group from Belmont limited out on Kings today at the 90's.  They were using pogies which can be found almost anywhere just off the beaches.

"The 90's Are The Place To Be" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/12/12

The father son duo of Frank and Brice Byrum along with Nelson Bowling fished the 90's using pogies aboard the "Wishful Thinking". They hit pay dirt catching kings and some nice spanish. The ocean was so smooth today you could skip a rock on it.

The fishing really heats up in October, just in time for the Fall Brawl. We are all looking forward to seeing Tournament Director, Capt. Brant  back in action MC'ing the event.  The last time I saw him was this afternoon laid out like an old dog asleep in the sun on the Yellowfin.  Seems he and Capt. Barrett had a busy morning fishing.

Judging by the pictures Corey Bellamy had a pretty good day today king fishing aboard his Donzi "Choice of Two".  He fished with his Dad and and a friend of his Dad's,  Corey said there was a pretty strong bite at the 90's leading up to the  Fall Brawl.

"Battle the cold fronts" | Get Busy | 10/11/12

Stong N.E. winds and fast moving cold fronts have made the fish tight on the cover. be patient and get the baits close on the docks and let them soak. They will bite. The fishing at the jetties is steady on the rising tide.

"Away from the ocean and it feels strange" | Real-Time Update | 10/10/12

Ashley and I are in Nashville for a BrightStar conference. First time away from salt air in a while. Good news though, there is a river with a boat in the hotel, I brought some Oifc custom king rigs and pogies. Might see if I can borrow the boat and get in on the king bite here. Wish me luck.... "Proof" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/10/12

Eddy Jones is proof that Capt. Brant's Custom Cast Nets are the real deal and can stand up to most any test.  Last week while throwing on some pogies at the Shallotte Inlet Eddy caught a 28" red drum.

A couple of years ago Capt. Jeff Beck caught a 42" drum at the Shallotte Inlet doing the same thing.  We're still using the same net.

"Friendly Fire?" | Tiberias - 22' | 10/09/12

Capt. Jeff booked us a trip this past Thursday afternoon. We had 4 gentlemen that wanted to fish two man teams on each boat. A little wager and some friendly competition maybe? Jeff and I work together on most occassions with our game plan to simply put folks on the fish. We have been catching a few redfish pretty consistently in one of the nearby creeks, so we headed that way. I stopped short to try another spot first and landed a 17" red right out of the gate. Jeff passed me and went straight to our original location. Text message shortly followed with a 23" red in the photo. Well, looks like we better move on down there. I pull up short and we watch Jeff land a double header. Myself and crew continue to watch Jeff catch a few more before changing our game plan. I simply slid past Jeff about 50 feet on the down current side of the action. I made three cast and hooked up all three times. We landed the first one, but #2 spit the hook and #3 found an oyster shell. Meanwhile, competition was heating up. Jeff's crew was working on their game plan, backing straight back into our lines cutting us completely off from the bite. Purdy work right there! It was then my crew decided to tell me about the BET. It was which boat could land the most keepers. Well, you can't keep but one redfish per person, so thats not going to get 'r done. Besides, I could tell I wasn't welcomed in this area anymore. We pulled up lines and headed elsewhere. We landed small reds almost everywhere we went, but no keeper fish. We were looking for flounder mostly, but I finally rolled across that black drum hole in my mental rollerdex. I headed that way hoping they were there. Yes sir! We pulled out a hand full of black drum before heading closer to home. I decided to try at the OIB bridge to finish the trip and hopefully find one more red to complete the fish box. We got'em! My crew came up with a game plan to act humbled when we hit the dock to see how much trash talking they would encounter. I loaded our two keeper reds in the net and headed for the cleaning station. Jeff was already cleaning there three keepers making them the clear winners, right? My crew was gettting hammered by the trash talk and I was pleading my case. Well, hang on there just one minute. I think I left something on my boat. I headed back to the fish box to unload our 12 black drum! All Jeff's crew could do at that point was laugh with us. We pulled one out and it surely doesn't always work out that way. It is fishing and you just never now, but a little friendly competition is what keeps us coming back for more! Stay tuned...Jeff embarrassed me at the Jetties on Saturday, maybe he will share that story. I think he even has a photo of me in the background not catching fish! I love it! See ya on the water!

Captain Jimmy Hall, Jerry Hall and Sam Canady caught this 90+ lb wahoo while fishing aboard their 23 Onslow Bay close to the 30/30 during the U. S. Open. They caught several teenagers and then this monster lit the reel up, the crew thought they had a winning fish seeing this massive thing down deep in the water, never thinking they had a wahoo this close in.  They said they enjoyed a great day on the water.

"King bite is on" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/08/12

After dust settled from US Open, Kings really cranked it up at the old sea buoy location in the river channel yesterday. Also good bite yesterday at 90/90. Large spanish mixed in. With cold front moving thru, should make fishing better and better along the beach. With north wind look for kIngs to key on mullets which will be running the beach. Hopefully everything coming together for Kings to respond to cooling water and will set up home at Shallotte Inlet just in time for the Fall Brawl King Classic weekend of Oct 26. In years past it has happened couple times that the bite was at [or inside of] the Shallotte Inlet buoy. It's fall in the Carolinas, and it don't get no better than this pal.
