Just adding another picture of one of Bonecrusher's trout.  He's become obsessed and is a crazed demonic individual determined to dominate the OIFC Rodeo Leader Board.

I am sure the 26th of December, the day of Capt. Rickey's Speck Tacular Trout Tournament only motivate him more.  He's determined to become the Dale Earnhardt of In Shore fishing!

Count down to the day after Christmas and the Captain Rickey's Spec Tacular Trout Tournament, Dec 26th..  Entry fee is $50 with a "winner take all " pot plus bragging rights.  Entry is simple...Send your money or bring it to the Captain's meeting which is the night before and usually conducted leaning against my truck in the parking lot at the OIFC.  Rules are....catch a trout from a boat...the same day and weigh it in at the OIFC during specified weigh in times.

There will be one heck of a meal and happy hour tournament  night at Dr. Morphes' house on the Shallotte River.

Capt. Rickey - you can best bet that Team BoneCrusher will be back to defend the title and to blank Capt. Clay's pre-engraved name on the trophy!! But wait he is on my team this year - looks like we will have a separate bait tank and live well!!

josh parker 12/12/2012

Is it fifty dollars a boat or a person, and do we just send a check to the OIFC marked spectacular trout tournament? Also, is there going to be a check out at the OIFC the morning of? When will the weight-in times be posted.

Joe Seegers fished with Joe Elphick aboard the Box Office out of Wrightsville Beach. They fished theSteeples area.   Although the had lots of fish on the boat by Joe's stamdards it was "kinda slow".

"Jersey Shore" | Get Busy | 12/09/12

Dwight and Alex McFadden from the Jersey Shore visited the OIFC today.  We struck up a conversation about Hurricane Sandy and the damage caused by it.  They do not live near the shore but shared the pictures of boats that had washed up in their neighborhood.

They had many interesting stories about how it was during and after the storm.

"What a beautiful weekend at OIB" | Get Busy | 12/09/12

A little foggy on Saturday but we made the best of it. Leaving Little River S.C. at before daylight with a livewell loaded with fresh shrimp from the Cape Fear River. We wanted to be the first on the jetties and we were other than a few duck hunters that is.Josh Wallen and his dad Dr.Jeff and I worked the jetties like a borrowed mule. It gave up some nice Speckle trout, Redfish and Black Drum.

"Wknd continued" | Get Busy | 12/09/12

Scott and his two boys Jack and Will joined the Get Busy Fishing team today. We worked the Shallotte River hard for a hour and half only to come up empty handed. We went to my strong hold and my sweet spots in the past. With some live OIFC mud minnows and a lb of fresh Atlantic Ocean shrimp we started pounding docks and oyster bars. With double and triple hook ups I made up for the time spent in the river.

Report from Capt Walley offshore says more Pogys than he's ever seen before. Whales there too. He was focusing on Kings which were biting good near Tower. All pieces are in place for Bluefin. We need some good fortune. Stay tuned. Also got a good Wahoo and Blackfin report from Capt Joe Seegers. Keep your hooks sharp and boat ready. The best day of Wahoo fishing I ever had was in February. You just don't know when conditions will be just right. Stay tuned

"Capt. Alex's Double Trout Rig" | Get Busy | 12/08/12

A young man and his grandad came in the OIFC today and it quickly became obvious to Capt. Brant and I that Alex was the real deal when it comes to inshore fishing.  The short story is Alex was kind enough to share his double trout rig with us and gave us permission to make and sell it.

I've tied a couple and we'll proudly be selling Capt. Alex's Double Trout Rigs in a couple of days.

There were also several  people in telling us they are catching trout almost every place,,,shallow creeks, the Jetties and around the docks on the ICW.  It seems the hot lures today are the Salt Water Assassin Sand Shad on an 8th oz jig head and the Gulp New Penny Shrimp and Grub on a jig head.  I was also given a report that flounder were still being caught.

I talked to a local in shore expert yesterday. This man is a tournament winner who grew up on these waters. He told me Berkley Gulp by far out fished any other bait when he is targeting trout. He said he puts it on a jig head casts and let's it sit on the bottom for a while the her retrieves it slowly. He also fishes it under a popping cork using treble hooks

"Who Let the Dogs Out?" | Tiberias - 22' | 12/07/12

Capt. Parker and I escaped the dog pound for just a few hours Wednesday afternoon in hopes of finding a few trout. It did not take us very long to start fine tuning our presentation and start putting trout in the box. I worked several colors of Bass Assassins with many of them getting short strikes, but Albino ghost was getting the hook to them. Capt. Parker and I managed to put a nice limit together for dinner. The trout continue to hang around and are biting a variety of baits. I believe presentation is just as important as choice of bait. Key points to remember...the water is cold, so slow it down...the water is clear, so be quiet...live shrimp or gulp shrimp are working well under a float...key is to make sure your bait is close to the bottom. Slip floats work best so you can adjust your depth from one location to the next. I still prefer working soft plastics slowly feeling the tell tell thump of a fish! I love that feeling! See ya on the water!

Joined Bonecrusher yesterday afternoon for a few hours of inshore cork watching.  Beautiful day on the water and the fish even cooperated.  We managed to scare up 15-20 fish; a mixture of red drum, black drum and trout.  Running and gunning from spot to spot was the technique using either live shrimp or artificials.  Both produced equally well.  I don't get to inshore fish as much as I used to but it sure is a tranquil environment.  Getting the fish to bite on top of scenery and smooth ride was icing on the cake.   Bonecrusher knows his way around these waters.  Running 50 mph in 1' of water either takes, well you know, you better know where you are going!
