Team OIFC is worn out.  We spent the better part of the day hooked up to a variety of fishes.  As for Nationals, we tried hard, but only managed to boat a 38.  A 58 was the big fish today.  It is a 2 fish aggregate event, so we will give it another go.  The good news is the Carolina teams are doing well.  Stay tuned.

"Jeffery Weeks" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/09/12

Jeffery Weeks unexpectantly passed away today. Jeffery has written numerous articles and his latest book has held the #1 spot on Amazon for several months. Jeffery's articles, reports, and personality will be missed greatly in the fishing world. Our prayers go out to his family and two children.

Below are pictures of Eddy Jones and Trask Cunningham fishing aboard Corey Bellemy's "Choice of Two-Beck's and Ellas" in the Gulf at the SKA Nationals.

Corey and his family are taking a much deserved break after the devastating fire that consumed Beck's Seafood Restaurant in Calabash.

"Look Closely" | Get Busy | 11/09/12

I was asked a load ( a southern unit of measurement) of times today "Where can I catch the trout?"  Look close at the background in the pictures of Scott Allen's picyures and you will find the answer.

"Get your trout on!" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/09/12

Steve and Byran joined me on this cold November morning for some trout action. I had to re-think my thinking as my tide clock is a little off on the time change. I pulled up to a spot that looked about right for the tide level. I picked a weapon of choice and made a cast simply for instructional purposes to show my guys the presentation we would be using for today. About the time I got the words "just let it fall slowly towards the bottom keeping the line tight" out of my mouth. THUMP! There he is! I quickly handed the pole to Bryan and loaded Steve up with a weapon. Both anglers were hooked up! Bryan must have caught five in row and then 2 boats pulled up throwing anchors. That scattered the fish, so we made a move. We continued to pick at them for a little while, but had not found them like our first spot. I made a move and a few adjustments. Fish on! Fish on! I got one! We ended the day with 20 to 25 trout, 5 to 6 reds, and a flounder. The water has really gotten clear making it very easy to spot fish, yet spook them at the same time. Remember be quiet and keep your distance. We caught all of our fish again casting artificials. My favorite baits are of course 4" Sea Shads by Bass Assassin in various colors. Albino ghost and Green Moon will be the go to colors as the water has gotten gin clear. Good luck out there! See ya on the water!

Congratulations to Miss Madison Morris for winning 1st place Jr. Angler at the SKA Nationals!  Madison is a valued member of the Seahorse Fishing Team.  She toughed out the rotten weather and terrible sea conditions to land her a spot on center stage at the awards banquet.Their post on Facebook is as follows...So proud of our 1st place junior angler for the PRO tournament :) looks like daddy might be buying a boat for somebody's 16th BDAY :) So proud of her for braving the weather, she's definitely not a quitter!!

"Licking Wounds" | N/A | 11/08/12

It's been a tough couple days for Team OIFC.  Myself, Chris Bryan, Chris Campbell and Rube competed in the SKA Pro Championship out of Biloxi.  Unfortunately we weren't much competition.  It wasn't for a lack of effort though as we braved 20-25knot north winds for both days of the tournament and traveled almost 400 miles trying to find the right fish.  There were plenty of big king mackerel scaled but we just couldn't seem to get in the right place at the right time.  Our hero or zero/ checkers or wreckers approach to tournament fishing has not paid off yet this year in Biloxi.  The good news is the big show starts tomorrow.  The National Championship will be held over the next two days from Biloxi and we are ready to redeem ourselves.  Most all fishing teams have arrived including a good contingent from Ocean Isle Beach and Brunswick County.  The goal is for one of us to bring the hardware home to Ocean Isle.  The weather is shaping up to be a little better especially tomorrow.  Brant, Amy, Caroline and Brayden are now in town along with my wife stephanie and we along with Rube will join forces to get Team OIFC back on track.  Stand by for an update tomorrow evening.

Rube is really focusing on the mission at hand.  He was last seen having a long conversation with the mount of "kingzilla" located here at the Isle of Capri hotel in the restaurant.

"OIB Manatee" | Get Busy | 11/08/12

Paul McIntyre sent us the following post:

I don't know if you'll be able to see them very well, but attached below are pictures I took of a manatee in the main canal behind Ocean Isle Beach. We were only a few feet away from it for several minutes, so we were definitely able to make a positive identification. After a very tough day fishing in the Fall Brawl on Sunday, we were just about back to the house when we saw the manatee easing along just below the surface. It would rise from time to time to breathe. We followed it until it finally turned out the main channel toward the ICW. Don't know if you've ever seen one here before or have heard of anyone seeing one, but we thought it was pretty unique.

Thanks for sharing Paul

Team OIFC had a blast catching and releasing 30 pounders, but just never got opportunity from a 40+ fish.  Nationals starts Friday and the McMullan family will unite to try to figure out the fishing puzzle which had thus far confused us.  Hopefully we will find a way to get opportunity.  Wish us luck.  The ocean is full of Kings like this 35 pounder.  It will take a pair of 50s to win Nationals!

Ok- we are in Biloxi! Brant, Amy and Brayden are here! We will be attending weigh in for day 1 of the pro championship. Stay tuned. Flying over the Gulf on the way in, the white caps were quite obvious. The forecast was for North winds 20-25kts. Yikes! Then think of running 60-90 miles offshore in that. I'm kinda glad I opted out of that part of the mission; I'm saving my strength for Nationals Friday and Saturday. Stat tuned.

"Locked and Loaded" | N/A | 11/05/12

Today had Team OIFC tightening up loose ends (literally) in preparation of the first day of the pro championship king mackerel tournament in Biloxi.  We made one last dash for bait this morning without much success.  We made the call to cut the bait mission short and come in to make a few repairs and put the finishing touches on pre tournament preparations.  We are locked and loaded.  The only problem is now the weather forecast has gone to heck.  Currently we are not sure if tomorrow will be a fish day or not.  If it is, teams will be braving 25knot north winds and that coupled with the required long runs makes for a very long day.  We'll know more this evening at the Capts meeting whether or not we are fishing tomorrow.  Either way, we are ready to go.

"Biloxi Bound" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 11/05/12

Amy, Brayden and I load up on a plane in the AM and head for Biloxi.  Barrett and team should be competing in the first day of the Pro tournament (if the weather allows competition).  We will hopefully be at the weigh in to cheer them on.  Caroline and Katelyn fly in on Thursday to complete the team.  We are excited to be headed back to Biloxi.  Win or lose, it is a neat place to fish, and I'm confident we will have a good time.  Stay tuned
