"Jolly Mon Top 3" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/20/11

The weather made fishing a challenge.  However most participant accepted the challange.  Catching a king was very hard if not impossible for some anglers.  So finishing in the top was extra special.  Congratulation to the top anglers and to all to who fished.  The top 3 anglers were as follows:

Champion, D. Logan, Logan's Run, 23.60 lbs

2nd Cearly Hooked, 22.50 lbs.

3rd  Hot Rod,, Brett and Allen Barnes, 19.54

I probably made some mistakes.  If you find something like wrong picture or name, email me at rickey@oifc.com and I'll make corrections.

"Monster Cobia" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/20/11

Stan Hollingsworth boated this 68 lb monster cobia during the Jolly Mon.  Shame we didn't have a cobia division because a 51 lb. cobia was weighed at the OIFC.

"Jolly Mon concluded" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/20/11

COMPLETE LIST OF ALL RESULTS FROM ALL CATEGORIES- CLICK HERE

Well, what can you say.  Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.  This weekend the bear got us.  Between bad weather and bad fishing, it was a tough weekend to be a tournament king mackerel fisherman.  But, despite all the negative transpirings, there were winners and although not very big, there were King Mackerel caught.  Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to everyone who participated.  We had 185 boat entries, which is down substantially from the typicall 300+ boats the Jolly Mon hosts, but I still consider it pretty darn good in the face of such adversity.  We had a great captain's meeting evening on Friday with all sorts of festivities and food as the show went on just like it does every year.

Again, thanks to everyone who stayed dedicated to the Jolly Mon.  I am beginning work now on the Fall Brawl and hope to see you there as well- hopefully with better weather and certainly with better fishing.

Capt. Brant

"Jolly Mon Results, Day One" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 06/18/11

There were several tired, haggard and wet anglers pulling up to the official Jolly Mon scales at the OIFC.  When the dust settled at 5:00 pm we were told unofficially that 112 boats fished today with only 18-20 weighing in fish.  Places 1-3 are:

1)  Logan's Run, 23.60#- D Logan

2)  Hot Ron, 19.54#- Brett and Allen Barnes

3)  Natural  18.50#- Stephen Hill

** The All In weighed in a 51# cobia

This reported will fish Sunday so a cub reporter will be subbing for me.  Good luck to all the Sunday fishermen.  Be safe, tight lines and bring in a big one.

This able bodied reporter will be fishing Sunday so a cub reported will substitute for me.

**Please understand that is report is not official, and may contain mistakes so don't call or send emails complaining that I got something wrong.--Thanks, Capt. Rickey

"Inshore Bite?" | Tiberias - 22' | 06/18/11

While many folks have geared up for the King Mackerel season, Capt. J-Dog and myself continue to pursue after the flounder. Capt. J-Dogg continues to find the flounder with 4 nice keepers caught yesterday. I on the other hand, could only find a hand full and muster up 2 keepers. Both I might add, came on the jig again.  I decided to try a few docks for redfish since my floundering skills were lacking. Joey was the first one to hook up! Nice! He managed to pull a nice 26" red drum from the pilings. We continued on to catch several redfish, most of them being just in the lower slot around 20".  That is what I love about saltwater. When one fish doesn't want to cooperate, another one usually will. Just hard to make that decision to move sometimes to make it happen. See ya on the water!

Bait? The bait continues to be small. Pogies are everywhere, but small. Mullet are everywhere, but small. Catching pinfish, croakers, and spots are the ticket if you are looking for larger bait. The artificials continue to produce a few fish in chartureuse and white colors. Don't forget the docks in the canals. Lots of bait in the canals, which usually means fish are hiding under the docks. Saw a little guy catch a nice one of the dock yesterday. Keep you posted! See ya on the water!
