"Post Irene inshore" | Get Busy | 09/03/11

The fishing has been steady despite terrible water and east winds. My local guys from the Myrtle Beach ventured out and found a few flounder and reds biting around times of high tide.

"water condition report" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 09/02/11

Looked at water yesterday and it is almost perfect "king green" on the beach. Our charter boats report water offshore[out to 20 miles] still blue-ish/milky.Didn't see Cape Fear,  although alot of water still flowing, it should be clean under surface. Mullets running the beach, pogies showing back up, glass minnows out to 40 feet......for those fishing South Brunswick Island King tourney this weekend....you get the picture.

"Lets Go Fishing" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 09/01/11

The weather is looking great for this weekend.  I have a couple of spots left open for a Wahoo excursion in the gulf stream this Saturday aboard the Carolina Cat.  If you have never had the opportunity to fish for Wahoo's or have tried repeatedly and been unsuccessful, this may be your chance to experience the fastest fish in the ocean and enjoy a great day on the water.  We will be trolling almost exclusively, possibly mixing in some high speed trolling with lures as well. We had an incredible gulf stream season this spring and it looks like the late summer/fall season is going to be as good as last year with some absolutely epic days mixed in.  There are likely some Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Sailfish still in the area and would be a welcome bonus on this trip.  Cost is $400 per person. This is hardcore fishing at its finest and we will be on the water for approximately 12-13 hours.  Call 910.575.3474 by Friday afternoon to get in on the action.

"water condition report" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 09/01/11

Report from our charter capts today is water color toward Ocean Crest looks very good, much better than off shore where still green/milky. Beach front full of mullets, pogies showing back up, glass minnows being ravaged by bonito.....what does that tell you?

"water conditions" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 08/31/11

The key to getting the fish to start to biting is to get the water color right. Its a little messy following storm, but nearly as bad as some of previous storms. The inside waters are somewhat muddy, but canals full of bait. Water should be getting better and better on every tide and with amount of bait in water, bite should kick off soon with a vengence. Offshore, water still milky which is not good, however with a northeast breeze, that wind direction very favorable to clear water up quicker. We have a charter out 20+ miles today so should have a good report this evening.

"The Day After" | Get Busy | 08/30/11

The OIFC has fielded many questions about the bite after Irene.  This picture of Seth Strickland's red fish caught 8-28-11 along with pictures on previous post ought to serve as an answer.

"Rodeo Leader Board Change" | Get Busy | 08/30/11

There has been a change in the red drum division with Ron Benetti taking the lead weighing in a 7 pound spot tail on 8-28.  This puts Brandon Sauls in 2nd and Josh Wallen in 3rd.

"New Partner" | Get Busy | 08/28/11

Meet Captain Tommy Helms' new fishing partner Trent.  He's been nicknamed P.  As soon as I can figure out a diplomatic way of explaining why I'll do it.

Check out P's  flounder he landed a couple of days before Irene.

"Impressive!!" | Tiberias - 22' | 08/28/11

Irene looked impressive at a distance, but she ended up just like that girl across the room. As she got closer she just fell apart. Thank goodness right! If she would have looked any better up close, you could have ended up married with two kids and broke! The point is, just because you escaped this disaster, don't think you can predict the next one. I haven't met a woman that was predictable yet. It is best to look straight ahead, give quick yes or no answers until you find out what you are being accused of. Then agree, shut up, and do what you are told. As you can see I have weathered many storms and will live to weather many more. It is always best to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. You just never know when she might turn on you. LOL! See ya on the water!

"Greatest near miss" | Get Busy | 08/27/11

For all the out of town people that visit the fishing report for updates I am glad to say I rode the Island from one end to the other. That was the Greatest close call I can remember. I checked ten homes and boats of friends and NO damage. Should be a great Labor Day weekend ahead.

"Hello out there ...." | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 08/27/11

Can anybody here me?  Are we live?  If you can here me, we are OK.  Despite a sleepless night, dealing with the acorns being pounded onto my roof, we have arisen this morning to more chaos.  I have all ready broken one of the blades on my rake, so things may be worse than I feared.  BUT, despite all this, the boats we left at the dock are still floating, the American flag on the dock is still flying and the OIFC will be open for business today at 2pm.

More reports to follow.

"Irene At Sunset Beach" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 08/26/11

A few pictures from Sunset Beach of Irene just prior to the bridge closing at 5 pm.  You can see how this reporter put his life in danger in order to bring you these photos.  Thank goodness the pole was there for me to hold on to.

I may be speaking too soon, but I've seen far worse Nor'easters here than Irene.  The news and weather channels are blowing this way out of proportion as far as Ocean Isle and Sunset Beaches are concerned, as exemplified by my Weather Channel like picture!

The OIFC will be open at 2 pm Saturday with your's truely at the helm!
