"Ben Rucker vs. Redfish" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/14/11

Took Ben on a quick trip to show my appreciation for him covering my shifts this weekend. The plan was to catch a few trout and maybe a redfish or two. We went to work and found a few trout. We were approaching a good area for reds, so I told Ben to get prepared. Redfish on! Ben landed the 18 incher and we got back to working on the area. Ben hooks up again and this one is taking the drag hard! Quick release! Ben ties another jig on and goes to work. Another hook up....Redfish! Drag screaming and surely we have got this one. Halfway into the fight, I here something like a rifle shot and yet another quick release. What?!! O.k. buddy! Let me at em...You will have to stop by the shop sometime to get the rest of the story, but the picture says it all. Ben had the trout game down pat, but let the redfish get the best of him. No worries there good buddy...we will get after'em again real soon. Thanks again for covering my shifts this weekend. See ya on the water!

"Hott trout bite" | Get Busy | 11/14/11

Teamed up with Larry on Sunday to try to find some of these trout we had been hearing about. Started out on the Little River  jetties on the rising tide with no luck. Moved back in the creeks to try out some tide rips and found them we did. Live shrimp was the ticket to start but the bite was so good the Gulp shrimp in new penny and pearl white did just as well. We boated and released 25-30 and desided to go back to the jetties and try for a big one or two. It just was not happening. Put the boat back on the lift  before the tide got too low and called it a great day.

"Wall Hanger" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 11/14/11

Brian Allen aboard the Wall Hanger showed that kings were't the only bite going down at the SKA Finals with this snapper he caught on a ribbon fish.

Notice the angle of the horizon and you can tell how smooth the seas weren't.

"Ian's Inshore Catch" | Get Busy | 11/14/11

Bonecrusher Sauls went fishing this weekend with Nesbitt and Beck Noble's nephew Ian.  Ian landed red red drum, trout and black drum.  Judging by the background it would appear they were at the Little River Jetties.  Although Bonecrusher has been known to take his photos at bogus locations.

I hope the 'Crusher isn't teaching Ian bad habits.  Congratulations Ian.  Great catch!

"Gulf Stream Action" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 11/13/11

Captains Chris Dew and Steele Park have been to the gulf stream the last two days with a decent wahoo bite starting to materialize out there.

Saturday they had several good runs come unbuttoned, but finally managed to land a wahoo, dolphin, and an amberjack. They also did a little vertical jigging and caught two snowy grouper just short of the 24" mark, along with the usual amberjacks.

Sunday they tightened it up a bit and buttoned up on two citation wahoo! Thats right...48.3lbs and 52.8 pounds...They also had a blackfin tuna and a king mackerel on the troll. Did a little vertical jigging and found the amberjack again. The gulf stream action will only heat up from this point. It looks as though the wahoo are starting to show and will get thicker as November draws to a close. Look for the next good weather day and get out there! Need someone to take you. Give us a call...910 575 3474! See ya on the water!

"Congratulations Seahorse" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 11/13/11

Most king fishing teams recognize the Seahorse Fishing Team by their bright green Yellowfin.  The team consists of Chad, Amy and Madison Morris, Scott Buff of Oak Island and George Metzger.  However They brought the Division 9 Senior Angler Award.  Amy is pictured with a king she caught during the nationals and Junior Angler Madison caught on in the 40 lb. range.  The team finished 26th out of 107 boats in the big boat class with a total 80.02 lbs.

Way to go Seahorse for making N. C. proud!

"Texas? Austin and Dallas" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/12/11

Steve Phifer, Austin, and Dallas joined us for a full day of inshore fishing today. The trout bite has been steady for the last few weeks and remains strong. We got started early this morning in near freezing temperatures. I had to defrost the boat before leaving the dock this morning. We pulled up to our first spot. The tide was slack. We made a few cast and a small trout fell for a Space Guppy 4" Sea Assassin. As the water started to get moving so did the trout. We started to pick off some 2 and 3 pound trout. Then, reel screaming and straining under the pressure of a nice fish. Redfish! We got into the reds fast and furious only landing 4 out of 7 bites. We had to make some quick adjustments to our tackle before landing our first slot red. Some nice trout were also mixed in with the redfish. We could not stay with the redfish, but the trout continued to bite all day. Austin and Dallas kept count of their fish. Dallas won the day with 18 fish to Austin's 16 fish. Dallas caught the first fish and Austin caught the last fish. Steve also caught his share, but I think we just enjoyed watching the young men have some fun. I enjoyed it guys! Hope to do it again soon! See ya on the water!

"My Buddy Joe" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/11/11

Mr. Joe had family coming in from Cincinnati, OH last night and wanted to put them on a few fish. Mr. Joe's brother Bob and nephew Bobby drove all night arriving here at 4 a.m. this morning. They were on my boat by 10:45 a.m. ready to fish. A bit chilly today with a stiff North wind blowing, but the trout are bite'n! We started off with a few small fish and then found a few keepers. Mr. Joe's brother Bob was convinced that the bite was good enough he could catch one on the fly. IN THIS WIND? He caught one on the fly today! Unbelievable! Meanwhile, we kept picking away at them. Bob finally gave up on catching another on the fly and picked up a spinning reel. He made a few cast and caught our best trout of the day. Close to 4 pounds...I guess some people just have all the luck. Mr. Joe caught a nice red which peeled off several yards of 6 pound test line before surrendering. Awesome day on the water! I love it! See ya on the water!

Pictures below...First pic...Bob, Bobby, Joe...Second pic...4 keepers still in the livewell that we dicided to release...Third pic... What we kept for dinner!

"Trout Regulations" | Tiberias - 22' | 11/11/11

Some confusion going on with the speckled trout regulations right now. I made some phone calls and with the help of Capt. Jeff Williamson we have found the best information available. Click on information for current regulations on speckled sea trout. This is North Carolina Regulations, so if you are fishing towards Little River jetties, keep in mind that is South Carolina waters and regulations may differ. Good Luck! See ya on the water!
