"Today's Report" | Capt. Hook | 06/26/03

Things were pretty good this morning we had one Kingfish and then the Jacks moved in and broke us off about ten times before we got one to the boat to do the real release!! This afternoon we caught another big CUDA this one was about 5 feet long and took about 30 minutes to get to the boat!! We took pictures and released it unharmed!! We did get one King and one Mahi for the table.!!

Shwwwwww!  Been fishing so much lately I have been unable to update the fishing report.  For the past three days I have been live bait fishing in the 10 to 25 mile range amidst the most perfect ocean conditions.  The king mackerel and amberjack have been the predominant visitors.  Although, we have had action from mahi, barracudas and sharks including one today that would go an estimated 200 lbs- on 15lb live bait gear!  Overall there has been plenty of action to stay busy.  At it again tomorrow.  Pictures coming soon.

Had a beautiful Ocean all day. We ran 2 half day trips starting out near the Shark Hole where we caught the Kings yesterday to find they had vacated the premisis. We did manage to pull out one King and Mr. Trent caught a fine Shark!! On the 2nd trip we went in another direction and further out to 75 feet of water and found the fish! We caught a couple of Kings and a Amberjack for the cooler. Then we released 2 Kings in the 23lb range, another Amberjack and a 40 lb Baracuda! It was non stop for the 5 hour Trip!! We will be running 2 more trips tomorrow so stay with us!!

Great day with the Kings in the 8-12 lb range 2 miles offshore of the Shark Hole. We saw them busting the top of the water feeding on cigars so we offered them pogies and the fight was on. Hot action on a slick Ocean. The bait was on the east side of Shallotte Inlet about 1/2 a mile down. Easy to get!!

The weather has been absolutely unbelievably gorgeous.  Cool clear days and flat calm seas.  The fishing has been nearly as good as we're doing well on Kings, Amberjacks, Mahi, Cobia, Sharks and Barracuda.  Lots of action on all the boats while fishing the 5-20 mile range.

Ended up fishing a tide line color change about 3 miles inshore of the shark hole today.  Found lots of action on school size kings and dolphin and also had one cobia- all on live pogies.  From there I fished the York 24 mile hole and had more action on dolphin and kings before being covered up by some ferocious amberjack.  Busy day catching fish!

Had a Northwestern kicking in the early morning that made it a litlle sloppy running offshore. We stopped at the 90's and caught a couple of Kings and a big spanish. Then we mosied on offshore to the ledges and hooed up with a fine cobia but he spit the pogie out about 5 minutes into the fight and the pogie was still intact and swimming!! We caught a nice Jack and hooked a couple more but they kept cutting us off on the structure!! The bait was on the east side of Shallotte inlet and easy to get!! Till next time!!

Good fishing is moving inshore!! Had a good morning with the Kings and pulled out a couple of Cobia after being called in to the 390-390. The bait was on the west side of Shallotte inlet this morning and fairly easy to get. Its time to get on the water and enjoy some of this action! Will be back out tomorrow so stay tuned!!

Capt. Grady and I fished offshore in the 20to 40 mile range and found plenty of action with the AJ's.  Also ran into a few kings, Barracuda and a huge shark of some flavor.  Lots of action.  Bendin rods and smilin faces.

Ran two half day trips today on a beautiful Ocean. Had much success on both trips with the Kings. We were at the 65 foot hole which is holding alot of cigar minnows on the top and bottom. The Kings are in the 8-14 lb class with most being caught on the downrigger in the 20 to 40 foot depth range. We also pulled out a nice spanish while catching the kings. A barracuda about 5 feet long came and hung out at boatside on the afternoon trip and ate a couple of Kings for us That is the food chain in action!!. Will be on a full day tomorrow and am planning to go a bit further offshore but who knows.

Had an enjoyable day fishing with Capt. Brant and Gary Caputi of Salt Water Sportsman in the Gulfstream.  We fished 10 miles offshore of the Blackjack hole on a small weedline and slick.  The water was a gorgeous purple color and was holding large numbers of good sized dophin fish.  We fished for only a few hours before calling it a day after catching more than we needed for dinner.  Today's highlight was Gary's great catch of a 35 lb dolphin (pictured) on a fly rod!  Back at the king mackerel and cobia tomorrow.  Stay tuned.

There was an awesome Kingfish Bite going on at the 65 foot hole today. We caught several nice Kings in 10 to 13 pound range. Lots of strikes makes it lots of fun. There was a lot of bait on the top and bottom is why I think these fish are holding in this area. Will be running two half days tomorrow if Mother Nature lets me so stay tuned!!

The Kings are biting great.  We fished the 65 foot hole this morning and limited out on fish in the 8-12 pound range while fishing live and dead Cigar Minnows.

"Fishing Stories" | Capt. Hook | 06/15/03

Well here we go!! We fished the 65 to 80 feet of water again on the day after the 38.5 pounder was caught and caught another King in the high twenties. So we went into the tournament with high hopes and ran from Geogetown Jetties back to the home grounds but could only pull out a 21.34 which was not bad for a first day fish but then the second day we only found fish in the 14 lb range and smaller. But my buddy Cy Garber pulled out an Amberjack bigger than him, with a little help from dear old Dad. Today we fished the 65 foot hole area and caught several snake Kings. We will be fishing daily for the next week or so and will keep you posted!!

Had an exceptional day on the cobia.  I have seen more cobia in our waters this year than I can ever remember.  Caught all fish on live pogies while slow trolling.  Found three at the Sherman and two at the 410/510.  I believe a main ingredient to have success with the cobia is to have a drip bottle of pogy or threadfin herring oil from Lighthouse chum company.  The smell really seems to draw the cobia to the boat.

It's COBIA madness!  We've been very busy fishing the past several days and the Cobia have come in and are biting great.  Most of the fish are averaging 25-30 pounds, but we've had several to top the 40 pound mark.  In addition, the Kings are showing up in good numbers and are mixing in with Cobias as well as Amberjack, Barracuda and Mahi as well.  Fishing is really great and you don't have to go too far either.  Great action on the 3/4 day trip right now!

WHAT A KINGFISH!!! Had a party from Ohio and one fell to green monster so we made a run for the hill, dropped him  off and returned to the ocean just in time to catch a 38.5lb King! We did all this on a 1/2 day trip!! Will be gone to fish the Tailwalker Tourney this weekend so I will be back Sunday!
