"Today's report" | Mac Marle'n | 04/12/03

Who say's you have to go to the Gulf Stream to have great fishing action in April?  Today I fished a group from Ohio on a 7 hour trip aboard the "MacMarle'n".  We started with a nice catch of Sea Bass and Gray Snapper while fishing in the 15 mile range.  On the way back inshore, I ran across Capt. Buster Gillis on the "Sea Hawk" who informed me he was into the Atlantic Bonito.  That was all I needed to hear as we deployed a spread of Clark Spoons on Planers and began hunting.  Within minutes it was 3 and 4 at a time for the next hour.  At one point I put the boat in neutral as we dropped Stingsilvers down and jigged with 12# tackle to catch the very tasty and hard fighting Atlantic Bonito.  We fished just offshore of the 390/390 and caught the fish by either trolling #2 Silver Clark spoons on #1 or #2 planers or by casting/jigging 1 1/4 oz. Pink/white or Green/white Stingsilvers.  If you're looking for a great time fishing but don't want to go all the way to the Gulf Stream, you've got to give this a shot.  The season will last thru April.  Call us at the new Ocean Isle Fishing Center- (910) 575-FISH ..

"Weather Breaking for Fishing Action" | Mac Marle'n | 04/11/03

The weather is finally clearing out.  It seemed like it will never quit raining, but finally the skies have cleared and its time to get back to business.  Speaking of business, the Fishing Center is ready to open on Wednesday.  So it looks like the fishing season is finally ready to begin.  Stay tuned to future reports.

It was another beautiful day.  The Bonito were out in full force but have proven very difficult to get to bite as they are boat shy and finicky.  After chasing them around for a while we went for the guarantee and caught a bucket full of 10-15 inch Sea Bass for the dinner table.

Today was another beautiful day.  I took a father and son on a nearshore 1/2 day trip and we found lots of Atlantic Bonito and Little Tunny holding around the Sherman and the 410/510.  We'll back at them tomorrow- stay tuned.

"Daily fishing report" | Mac Marle'n | 03/23/03

Well, the weather has just arrived and the must be close behind- although not totally here.  I had a few friends join me on a trip to the Gulf Stream yesterday and although the weather was perfect, the fishing was pretty slow.  There were a few scattered Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo caught, but for the most part the action has not heated up yet.  However, the King Mackerel are moving in and can be caught in good numbers in the 30-50 mile range.  Also the Atlantic Bonito are showing up and they are holding in the 5-15 mile range.  Things are looking fishier every day and the weather is beautiful.

"1/2 day Sea Bass Fishing is Hot" | Mac Marle'n | 03/22/03

Not only was the weather absolutely perfect today, the Sea Bass fishing action was great.  We fished in the 10-15 mile range and caught plenty of great eating Sea Bass in the 1-3 pound range.  We used fresh squid and cut bait on the bottom to catch the Sea Bass.
